    The just-cited pages in Betriebsräte und Sozialisierung show “fliegende Buchhaltung,” flying bookkeeping, whereas the just-cited page in Soziale Zukunft shows “fließende Buchhaltung,” or flowing bookkeeping. The words “fliegende” and “fließende” are visually similar, differentiated only by g in the one and the German ß in the other, two letters both constructed of a double loop. Did Steiner really use two different expressions, or was one of them just a misinterpretation by editors looking at unclear stenographic transcripts of the lectures?

    The 2013 SteinerBooks English translation of Steiner’s Soziale Zukunft lectures (under the title The Social Future) uses the phrase, “currency system of bookkeeping” (p.52) rather than literally translating the words “fließende Buchhaltung” that appear in the German text of Soziale Zukunft.
